The Sport Sign respects your privacy and follows Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This policy explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Account: your name, email, phone (optional), saved shipping addresses, and a securely hashed password (we can't see it).
- Orders: what you bought, shipping address, phone, and order and shipping history.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We receive a payment confirmation, not your card number.
- Agreements: which version of our policies you accepted, when, and the IP address and browser used. This is our record that you agreed.
- Support and returns: messages, photos or files you send us, and your return or warranty history.
- Mailing list: your email (and name, if given), only if you opt in.
- Your light: to work, your light contacts thesportsign.com to download live scores, its score settings and firmware update notices. Those requests include your light's IP address and the team it follows. They don't include your name or email.
- Technical: our hosting and security provider record IP addresses and basic request details to keep the site secure and working.
Why we use it
To process and deliver orders, provide support, handle returns and warranty claims, keep your account secure, meet tax and legal obligations, and (only if you opt in) send product news. We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't use advertising trackers.
Who we share it with
Only service providers that help us run the store, and only what they need:
- Stripe (payments)
- Our web host and Cloudflare (hosting, security and delivery of the site and score data)
- Shipping carriers (your name, address and phone to deliver your order)
- Our email provider (to send order, account and support emails)
Some of these providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
Cookies
We use one essential session cookie to keep you signed in and keep your cart. Our security provider may set a cookie to block attacks. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
- Order, payment and tax records: 7 years, as Canadian tax law requires.
- Warranty and return records: for the warranty period plus 1 year.
- Support tickets: 3 years after they close.
- Agreement records: as long as the related order or account exists, plus 7 years.
- Account details: until you ask us to close the account (records above are kept for the periods shown).
Security
Passwords are hashed, the site uses HTTPS, attachments are stored privately, and staff access is password-protected. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach puts you at real risk of significant harm we'll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as required.
Your rights
You can see and correct your information in your account, download a copy of your data from your account's profile page, withdraw marketing consent at any time, and ask us to delete your account. Email [email protected] or contact us. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
