Everything you need to get your Goal Light on the wall and lighting up. Can't find it here? Send us a message — a real person answers.

Setup guide

About 5 minutes. You need a phone or laptop and your home Wi-Fi password.

Before you start: the Goal Light connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Most home routers broadcast both 2.4 and 5 GHz — if yours has separate names, pick the 2.4 GHz one.

Place it and plug it in

Set the light where you'll see it from the couch, with the button and power jack at the back. Plug the power adapter into the barrel jack on the base, then into the wall. The display wakes up in a few seconds.

Open setup mode

A brand-new (or freshly reset) light starts in setup mode on its own. Otherwise, give the side button a short press. The light opens its own open Wi-Fi hotspot named goallight.

Join the hotspot

On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings and join goallight. The setup page usually pops up on its own. If it doesn't, open a browser and go to 192.168.4.1.

Your phone may warn that the network has no internet — that's expected. Choose "stay connected".

Choose your Wi-Fi, team and time zone

Pick your home network and enter its password, select your team, choose your time zone, then tap Save. The light restarts and joins your Wi-Fi.

Check the front

Reconnect your phone to your home Wi-Fi and go to http://goallight.local. Tap Test Orientation — if "UP" isn't centred on the front of the tube, open Settings and adjust Rotation (and Mirror / Upside down if the text reads wrong).

Test the goal

Tap Test Goal to see the beacon and hear the horn. Then set a broadcast delay to match how you watch (see below) and you're done. Between games, the light shows the time.

Using your light

Everything lives on the light's own page at http://goallight.local (or its IP address — see Troubleshooting).

Main page

  • A live preview of exactly what the display is showing
  • Game status for your team's game today
  • Test Goal and Test Orientation buttons
  • Live Sync on/off and Force Sync
  • Event log — handy if you ever need support

Settings

TeamThe team the light follows and celebrates
Time zone & clock12 or 24-hour, clock colour. Daylight saving is automatic.
Broadcast delayHolds the goal back so it fires when you actually see it. Streaming is often 30–60 s behind live; cable 5–15 s. Start there and adjust after a goal or two.
BrightnessSeparate day and night levels, with night hours you choose
OrientationRotation, mirror and upside-down, so the front faces you

During a game the score scrolls in each team's colours. After the final whistle the final score stays up for 30 minutes, then the clock returns.

Goal sounds

The speaker in the cap plays a goal horn when your team scores. The light holds up to 5 short sound clips.

  • Upload or swap clips over Wi-Fi from the light's settings page — no cables or reflashing.
  • Set the volume from the same page.
  • Keep clips short (a few seconds) — think horn plus a bit of crowd.

Firmware updates

Updates add features and keep up with changes to league data. To install one:

  1. Download the latest file from the firmware page.
  2. Go to http://goallight.local/system.
  3. Upload the .bin file and wait for the restart. Don't unplug it mid-update.

The /system page also shows your firmware version, live-data status, and lets you set an admin password (user name admin, 6+ characters) that protects settings and updates.

Button cheat sheet

Short pressOpens setup mode (the goallight hotspot) to change Wi-Fi or start over
Hold 10 secondsFactory reset. The small status LED blinks while you hold — faster near 10 seconds. Erases Wi-Fi, all settings, the admin password and your sound clips, then restarts in setup mode. Let go early to cancel.

Forgot the admin password? A factory reset is the way back in.

Troubleshooting

Setup page doesn't pop upStay connected to goallight and browse to 192.168.4.1. Turn off mobile data for a minute if your phone keeps jumping back to it.
Can't see my home networkThe light only sees 2.4 GHz networks. Check your router has 2.4 GHz turned on, and move the light closer for setup.
goallight.local won't openSome Android phones and older Windows PCs don't support .local names. Look up the light's IP in your router's device list and type that instead.
Goal lights up too early / lateAdjust the broadcast delay in Settings — raise it if the light beats your TV, lower it if it lags.
No score during a gameCheck the main page's game status and the live-data status on /system. Try Force Sync. If live data is failing for a while, a firmware update may be available.
Clock shows the wrong timeDouble-check the time zone in Settings. Time comes from the internet, so the light must be online.
Text is backwards or off-centreSettings → Orientation: adjust Rotation, Mirror or Upside down, then use Test Orientation.
Too bright at nightSet a lower night brightness and the night start/end hours.
Display is darkCheck the adapter is firmly in the jack and the outlet works. Use only the included adapter.

FAQ

Orders

How do pre-orders work?
You're charged when you place the order, and we ship as soon as units are ready. You'll get email updates along the way, and you can cancel for a full refund any time before it ships.
Where do you ship and how much is it?
Anywhere in Canada except Québec, for a flat $25 per order. See the shipping policy for details.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay, through Stripe's secure checkout.
Can I change my address after ordering?
Yes, as long as it hasn't shipped. Contact us with your order number right away.
What's the return and warranty policy?
30-day returns (product price refunded, return shipping paid by you, 15% restocking fee on opened items) and a 1-year limited warranty, with shipping to us reimbursed up to $25 on valid claims. Start either from your account.
Do I need an account to order?
No, you can check out as a guest. A free account lets you track orders, start returns and warranty claims, open support tickets, save addresses and keep your cart on any device. If you create an account with the email you ordered with, your past orders appear automatically once you verify it.

Setup

What kind of Wi-Fi does it need?
A regular 2.4 GHz home network with a password. Networks that make you sign in on a web page (hotels, some dorms) won't work.
I changed my Wi-Fi password. Now what?
Press the side button once to open setup mode, join the goallight hotspot, and pick your network again.
I forgot the admin password.
Hold the side button for 10 seconds to factory reset. This erases all settings and sound clips, so you'll set it up again from scratch.

The Goal Light

Which sports does it work with?
Hockey today. Support for more sports — starting with a baseball home-run mode — is planned and will arrive as free firmware updates.
Do I need an app or an account?
No. Setup happens in your phone's web browser. There's no app to download, no account to create, and no subscription.
How fast does it react to a goal?
It follows the league's live data, which usually updates within seconds. TV and streaming are often behind live, so use the broadcast delay setting to make the light fire right when you see the goal.
Can I change or turn down the goal sound?
Yes. Upload up to 5 short clips over Wi-Fi from the light's settings page, and set the volume there too.
Will it be too bright at night?
You can set separate day and night brightness levels and choose the hours night mode runs.
What happens if the score data changes?
Most fixes reach your light automatically: it checks with us once a day for updated score settings. Bigger changes come as free firmware updates you install from the light's /system page, and the light tells you when one is available.
Is this an official league product?
No. The Goal Light is an independent product and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any league or team.
